BVS will provide the following with with each sample processing:
- Notification to the beekeeper of discrepancies noted in packaging or shipping that impact the suitability of samples for virus screening.
- BVS shall analyze as a single sample 6 grams of honey bees per sample for the following 8 viruses: Acute Bee Paralysis Virus (ABPV), Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus (CBPV), Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV), Sacbrood virus (SBV), Kashmir Bee Virus (KBV), Lake Sinai Virus-2 (LSV), Deformed Wing Virus (DWV), and Varroa Destructor Virus-1 (VDV).
- BVS shall analyze the same sample for Nosema ceranae spores.
- BVS may, at the discretion of BVS and within the limits of the BVS technology, provide testing for other bee diseases.
- BVS will also be providing, as it becomes available, bee gut bacteria detection, foul brood detection, chalkbrood detections, some detail on forage plants picked up on analysis of the sample bees and chemical testing (pesticide, herbicide and fungicide).
- BVS may substitute a comb section from a hive for a bee sample with the same data targets. Comb samples are roughly 2 inches by 2 inches from a comb. Coordination with BVS is requested prior to substitution.
- BVS will provide reports via email to the Beekeeper.
- The beekeeper will use and provide a form of “zip-lock” baggies to contain bees for shipping.
- The beekeeper will be responsible for identifying each sample and marking the sample accordingly.
- The beekeeper shall coordinate the collection and submission of honey bee samples to BVS.
- The beekeeper shall supply all necessary collection and shipping materials as well as cost of sample shipment to selected lab.
